Barfield, Inc. is a Miami-based aviation maintenance and test-equipment company. Its measurement products are built for aircraft ground support, including air-data and pitot-static testers, fuel-quantity testers, turbine-temperature testers, pressure testers, and cable tensiometers. The company also repairs aircraft components and supports airline maintenance programs.
History
James W. Barfield founded the business in Miami in 1945 as an aircraft instrument and avionics facility. Barfield subsequently expanded beyond component repair into purpose-built ground-support test equipment, producing portable instruments used by technicians to verify aircraft systems without removing every component from the airframe. That combination of maintenance experience and test-set design explains the Barfield name found on manuals for fuel, temperature, pressure, and air-data equipment.
The company passed through several owners while retaining the Barfield name. It became part of EADS North America in 2003, joined Sabena technics in 2007, and was acquired by Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance in 2014. Barfield now operates within the AFI KLM E&M network while continuing its American maintenance, distribution, and ground-support test-equipment activities.
