Frequently asked questions
How do I convert 4–20 mA to engineering units?
Subtract 4 mA from the reading and divide by the 16 mA span. Multiply that fraction by the engineering span and add the engineering value at 0%. For 0–100 psi, 12 mA represents 50 psi.
Does this work with 0–10 V transducers?
Yes. Choose 0–10 V or another preset, or enter custom signal endpoints. The calculator converts signal, engineering value, and percent of span in either direction.
Can the engineering range be reversed or negative?
Yes. Enter the engineering value at each signal endpoint, even if the 100% value is lower than the 0% value. The two endpoints must differ.
What happens outside the configured span?
The calculator shows a linear extrapolation and flags the reading as outside the span. It does not interpret device fault currents or apply square-root extraction.
