History

The company's official history traces its origin to Chicago television-service work by Carl Korn and Philip Ban in 1948. They developed CRT rejuvenators and vacuum-tube testers because suitable service equipment was difficult to obtain. B&K states that by 1951 the activity had developed into the company that expanded into wider electronic testing and measurement, which is why this draft uses 1951 as the provisional founded year.

In 1961 B&K Precision became part of Dynascan, an umbrella corporation that also included other electronics businesses. The official history says B&K continued through later ownership transitions, and that a new ownership team led by engineer Victor Tolan expanded the product line in 1996 and moved headquarters to southern California.

B&K later expanded its regional support through the acquisition of Sefram Instruments in France in 2004 and the instrument division of Motech in Taiwan in 2012. Its current company page lists power supplies, DC electronic loads, signal generators, component testers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, programmers, and electrical and battery testers, and identifies Yorba Linda, California, as headquarters.
