About JDSU
Reviewed 2026-07-26
JDSU is the retired catalog name of JDS Uniphase Corporation. The manuals on this site concern its communications test-and-measurement business—fiber inspection, OTDR platforms, broadband access testers, protocol tools, and service-assurance systems—whose principal successor after the 2015 corporate separation is VIAVI Solutions.
History
JDS Uniphase was formed in 1999 through the merger of JDS Fitel and Uniphase. It developed optical components and communications products, then expanded its test portfolio by acquiring Acterna in 2005. Acterna's own lineage included established network-test businesses, making that acquisition especially important for understanding JDSU-branded HST, TestPad, OTDR, and platform manuals. JDSU also acquired Network Instruments in 2013.
The 2015 separation did not create one combined successor called “VIAVI Solutions and Lumentum Holdings.” JDSU separated its communications and commercial optical products operation as Lumentum, while the remaining network enablement, service enablement, and optical-security business adopted the VIAVI Solutions name. For this catalog's test instruments, VIAVI is the relevant continuing organization. JDSU is therefore treated as a defunct corporate name and historical imprint, not as a current parent company.
