About Rotronic
Reviewed 2026-07-26
Rotronic is a Swiss measurement brand within DwyerOmega specializing in relative humidity, temperature, water activity, carbon dioxide, and differential pressure. Its manual collection includes handheld meters, probes, transmitters, data loggers, humidity generators, calibration systems, and environmental-monitoring hardware and software used in laboratories, pharmaceutical and food production, HVAC, meteorology, and industrial processes.
History
Graduate engineer Hans Speglitz founded ROTRONIC AG in Zurich in 1965. The company's own anniversary history says it began by trading components and entered humidity measurement in 1967 after collaborating on electronics for a capacitive relative-humidity sensor. Rotronic developed and produced its own humidity and temperature instruments and later added probes, transmitters, loggers, laboratory systems, accredited calibration capabilities, and software-supported monitoring.
In 2014, the original group separated its IT and consumer-electronics trading activity into ROTRONIC SECOMP AG while ROTRONIC AG retained Measurement Solutions. Rotronic became a Process Sensing Technologies brand in 2017. DwyerOmega acquired PST in November 2024, and current Rotronic material describes the business as DwyerOmega's center of excellence for relative humidity and cloud-based monitoring. The live Swiss site continues to identify the measurement operation at Bassersdorf.
The current portfolio extends the brand's humidity and temperature base into water activity, carbon dioxide, differential pressure, dew point, airflow, data logging, and validated environmental monitoring. Its HygroGen systems and accredited laboratories are particularly relevant to calibration and metrology, while the older computer-accessory business belongs to the separated ROTRONIC SECOMP entity and should not shape this profile.
