Tektronix, Inc., also known as Tektronix or Tek, is a manufacturer of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers. The company produces video and mobile test protocol equipment, signal generators, and digital multimeters. Headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon, the firm has undergone significant corporate restructuring, including a 2007 acquisition by Danaher Corporation and a subsequent spin-off to Fortive in 2016.
History
Founded in 1946, Tektronix, Inc. established itself as a producer of specialized electronic test instruments. The company’s product portfolio includes oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers. It also manufactures signal generators, digital multimeters, and equipment for video and mobile test protocols. These tools serve various technical measurement needs across different industries.
Corporate ownership changed significantly in the early twenty-first century. In 2007, Danaher Corporation acquired Tektronix, integrating the manufacturer into its broader portfolio. This acquisition marked a shift in the company’s operational structure and strategic direction under new parentage. The integration lasted nearly a decade before further changes occurred.
In 2016, Tektronix was spun off from Danaher to become part of Fortive. This separation allowed the company to operate with renewed focus on its core instrumentation business. The move to Fortive represented a strategic realignment for the manufacturer, positioning it within a different corporate ecosystem while maintaining its identity as a producer of test and measurement equipment.
The company has also adjusted its internal divisions over time. In 1994, Merix Corp. was spun off from Tektronix as a separate division. Later, in 2019, the Tektronix Video division merged with Telestream. These structural changes reflect the company’s evolving approach to managing its various product lines and business units.
