About VXI Technology

Reviewed 2026-07-26

VXI Technology is the former name and historical instrument imprint of today's VTI Instruments business within AMETEK. Manuals under this label cover VXI, VME, and later LXI modular instruments, especially switching, signal distribution, data acquisition, digitizers, counters, and integrated functional-test hardware. It should not be presented as a separate current manufacturer.

History

VXI Technology developed modular test and measurement equipment around the VXI and VMEbus platforms and later participated in the creation of the LAN eXtensions for Instrumentation standard. VTI's current official FAQ says VTI Instruments was formerly known as VXI Technology and that the company helped form the LXI Consortium with Agilent Technologies in 2004. The catalog's VXI Technology manuals reflect this transition from VXI chassis and plug-in modules toward network-connected modular systems.

VXI Technology, Inc. changed its name to VTI Instruments Corporation in February 2009, while continuing VXI, VME, and LXI products. AMETEK acquired VTI Instruments in February 2014 and described it as an Irvine-based producer of precision test-and-measurement equipment including signal conditioning, switching, data acquisition, and integrated systems. Current VTI pages preserve support for legacy product families and sometimes still use the VXI Technology name in product descriptions, but the former company name is no longer the current corporate identity.
